Quedan menos de 50 días para el Draft y a los que nos gusta esta época de la Temporada NFL intentamos digerir mucha información en poco tiempo. Queremos saberlo todo sobre los prospects que se presentan al Draft y que pueden llegar a ser «drafteados» por nuestros equipos. Trevin Wallace
Ellos viven su último año universitario que no termina con el último partido de la Temporada con su Universidad. Ahí es, en realidad, donde comienza este viaje. Un intenso proceso Pre-Draft que, para algunos, tiene su punto álgido en la NFL Combine donde tienen que pasar una serie de pruebas físicas, exámenes médicos, hacer frente a las preguntas de los medios de comunicación y sus primeras entrevistas formales con los equipos NFL.
Un periodo de estrés emocional sin poder dejar de lado su preparación física. A algunos prospects este periodo se les hace largo, tanto que no son capaces de rendir como se espera de ellos, haciendo que su stock de cara al Draft baje. Otros, por el contrario, suben.
Este es el caso de Trevin Wallace, Linebacker de la Universidad de Kentucky. Si eres aficionado de Steelers y viste el Mock Draft de Chad Reuter el pasado 12 de Febrero, te sonará porque salía en el Pick número 20. Después de brillar en la semana de la Senior Bowl, tanto en los entrenamientos como el partido, semanas después se plantó en Indy con la intención de repetir delante de los focos de la NFL. Y no defraudó a los que, como yo, esperábamos rindiera a un gran nivel. No obstante, Next Gen Stats le da la mayor nota de «atleticismo» en el grupo de Linebackers siendo Wallace el LB que marcó la velocidad más rápida en la prueba de las 40 yardas con un fantástico 22.94 mph.

En su último año en Kentucky, consiguió 80 Tackles, 8,5 para pérdida de Yardas, 5,5 Sacks, 1 Intercepción y 1 Fumble forzado. Uno de los capitanes de los Wildcats, explosivo, capacidad para ir de banda a banda, bueno parando la carrera. Se define como un líder y tiene a Fred Warner (49ers) como su modelo en el campo. Participó en entrevistas formales durante la Combine con Miami Dolphins, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers, Los Ángeles Chargers y Denver Broncos.

166 tackles, 18.0 tackles for loss, including 10.0 sacks, five quarterback hurries, three interceptions, two forced fumbles, and a pass breakup. Year after year you have been improving your stats, how can you describe your time in Kentucky?
“My time at Kentucky was great. From my freshman to my junior year, the relationships I built with my coaches and teammates was wonderful. Without them, I wouldn’t have been successful on the field.”
Your numbers since Freshman year have not stopped rising, also you’ve received several individual recognitions: All-SEC Freshman Team, Butkus Award Watch List, named one of the captains of the Wildcats, invited to the Senior Bowl, NFL Combine… What’s Trevin Wallace’s ceiling?
“The sky is the limit. I don’t like to place limitations on myself.”
Both in practice and in the Senior Bowl game, you were one of the standout players. What do you think you were able to prove to the scouts of the 32 teams those days?
“That I can play inside linebacker with only starting one year in college football as well as being new to the inside linebacker position.”
You are one of the players who is rising the most in this Pre-Draft process, this same week, Draft analyst Chad Reuter placed you in the Steelers’ Pick 20. For those who do not know who you are at the moment, how would you describe yourself as a player?
“As a player, I would describe myself as confident and as a leader. I’m a leader and confident in my capabilities.”
Teams usually highly value the Special Teams background and often ask rookie players to start contributing to that unit. You have extensive experience, wouldn’t be a problem, right?
“No, it wouldn’t be a problem at all.”
Many teams in the League need LB in this Draft. My Seahawks for example, as well as the Cowboys, Steelers, Dolphins… What is the biggest strength that Trevin Wallace has that can make these teams look at you in the Draft instead of another prospect?
“My speed, hands down. Speed and my IQ.”
